INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indianapolis charter school says it has asked for a bus driver to be replaced after a kindergartener was left at a stop about four miles from her home.
Five-year-old Deazja Powers is unharmed but her grandmother says the girl spent about 45 minutes knocking on strangers' doors looking for help. Teresa Bates tells The Indianapolis Star that it was her granddaughter's first day riding the school bus when she was left on the city's east side Monday afternoon.
Ron Halbert owns the bus contractor Bus Mart and tells WISH-TV that the driver has been suspended for two weeks but has been a safe worker for many years.
A spokesman for Andrew J. Brown Academy says it reviewing what happened with the company that provides bus service.
