INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Turns out Butler is this year's big basketball winner — in the classroom.
The Bulldogs, two-time runner-ups in men's basketball, were the only Final Four team — men's or women's — to make this year's list of Academic Progress Rate overachievers.
The NCAA released its annual list Tuesday. Teams with perfect scores of 1,000 or that finish in the top 10 percent of their sport academically are given special recognition by the governing body. Actual scores won't be released until next week.
Forty men's basketball teams were honored, including all the 2010 Final Four teams — Duke, Butler, Michigan State and West Virginia.
Auburn and Oregon, which played for this year's BCS title, also failed to make the list.
