Buttigieg on Wednesday sent boxes of South Bend Chocolate Company chocolates and Claeys Chocolate Charlie to Mayor Walt Maddox.
“Mayor Walt sent me a gracious note after the game and relayed his respect for Notre Dame and the South Bend community,” said Buttigieg. “While we wish the outcome was different, I congratulate Alabama and the city of Tuscaloosa. I hope they enjoy a taste of South Bend as they savor the victory.”
“It’s a lot of fun when the two greatest college football programs in the history of the game compete for a national championship,” said Maddox. “In Tuscaloosa, Notre Dame has a tremendous amount of respect for all its traditions and successes.”
As part of the wager, the mayors agreed to donate to the winning side’s charity of choice. Buttigieg is sending a $100 personal check to the city of Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund.
