MISHAWAKA – Following a huge fire at a former Mishawaka foundry, people who kept vehicles inside the building for storage are beginning to assess the damage to their property.
The RMG Foundry has been closed for a number of years.
Most recently, the building was being used to store hundreds of cars, trucks, R-V's and boats.
Bill Tobolski stored two boats in the building, and he estimates his losses at about $30,000.
Tobolski says he found out about the fire from a friend.
“Another friend of mine called me and said, 'Hey, did you have your boat stored over at the Dodge thing?' I said, 'Yeah,' and he said, 'It's gone,' and I said, 'You're kidding me.' You think you’re gonna store your boat inside a building, and it’s gonna be safe all winter and get it out in the spring. This year, not gonna happen.”
Tobolski says he has insurance and is now waiting to see if he can get new boats.
