SOUTH BEND – A South Bend woman and her 6-year-old son were inside their home when a jet came crashing through their house late Sunday afternoon.
They both survived.
Patricia Kobalski and her son lived through the crash. Not many people can say that.
She's accepted the gravity of the situation that her home can't be saved but says she keeps replaying that moment in her mind.
WSBT spoke with Patricia Sunday afternoon right after the crash and talked with her again on Tuesday.
She was out again Tuesday, this time worried about her cat, Zuul, who has been missing since the accident.
Right now, Patricia is hoping the cat is hiding or maybe someone already rescued him.
Even though her cat may be gone, Patricia says it's a miracle that the plane's impact didn't hurt her 6-year-old son who was on the side of the house where the jet hit.
"Somebody was watching over us that day," she said. "Could've been a lot worse."
Former Oklahoma University quarterback Steve Davis, 60; and 58-year-old Wesley Caves of Tulsa, Oklahoma, were both on the plane and were killed. Two others onboard and a person on the ground were injured.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, investigators had allowed neighbors back into all of the homes in the Iowa Street area, except the three still not safe. 2 of those 3 homes have to be demolished.
