SOUTH BEND – Even if you don't live in South Bend or Mishawaka you should care about who's on the school board.

That's the message from local business leaders.

South Bend School Board candidates will take part in a candidate forum Thursday night downtown at the Century Center at 6:30.

They will answer questions about what they would do if elected.

Tuesday night, 7 candidates running for school board seats in Mishawaka had their forum.

For the first time, Mishawaka will elect two school board members instead of appointing them.

The candidates took the stage at Bethel College to answer questions about how they would help make decisions for the school district.

The St. Joseph County Chamber says education is key to growing a community.

“It impacts business,” said Shari Carroll of the Chamber. “It impacts whether people want to move here, whether or not businesses want to relocate here. So, education is huge, and it’s important to hear what these people are saying about their school systems

WSBT, the South Bend Tribune, TCU and the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce are hosting these forums.
