SOUTH BEND – If you have already begun taking down your Christmas decorations, the city of South Bend is ready to help you do away with your tree.
Christmas tree recycling starts Tuesday. There are several locations you can drop them off each day from 7 a.m. until 6 pm. and it will run through January 12. Make sure to remove all lights, tree stands, and nails.
The trees are recycled into high-quality mulch, which is provided free to people who live in the city. You can drop them off at Rum Village Park, Pinhook Park, or Veterans' Memorial Park.
Pickups will begin Jan. 3 on the northeast side and will move clockwise around the city, ending January 13. Or you can call the city's street department at 235-9244 to pick up a tree this week.
