COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Police say a missing 9-year-old girl escaped an apparent kidnapper and called 911 herself from a convenience store in Colorado Springs.
The Pueblo girl was reported missing Thursday when she failed to return home from school.
The Gazette (http://bit.ly/Ao9LgD) reported that the car of the man she was with broke down Friday in Colorado Springs and a passerby gave them a ride to a Circle K.
Police say the girl ran into the store and asked to use the phone to call her uncle. She called 911 instead.
One witness said the girl had two black eyes and refused to leave with the man, saying she was going to wait for her mother.
The man fled and police are searching for him.
