An Elkhart County family was burned out of their home Sunday night.

This happened in the 30000 block of Oak Springs Drive. Heavy flames were shooting through the roof of the home in the Glen Haven Estates neighborhood just off of Ash Road north of County Road 12 in Cleveland Township.

Firefighters say there was someone home at the time, but no one was injured. Firefighters made efforts to try to rescue the pets inside, but it's unknown if the animals ever made it out.

By the time firefighters arrived, flames were ripping through both the garage and house.

“They've done so much work to their house, they've completely remodeled it,” said one neighbor. “A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this house. Her dad actually helped her redo the house before he passed and to see her lose it, it's hard."

It's unknown what caused the fire. Firefighters say the house is a total loss. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
