INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Deer and turkey hunters in Indiana will have the option this fall of skipping traditional check stations and report their catch online.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the online system called CheckIN Game allows hunters to report their game from the convenience of their home or directly in the field. DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife Director Mark Reiter says the free online system is a big step forward in giving hunters more options to check in their game.

Hunters can report their deer and turkey harvest using computers, smart phones or tablets that have Internet connections. More than 2,100 turkey hunters took advantage of CheckIN Game when it was launched during the spring turkey season.

The state will still have more than 450 traditional check stations running.
