I work in IT at a multinational healthcare firm that runs the entire spectrum of VP jobs all the way to janitorial jobs. I see the janitorial jobs being outsourced because of wages - union employees that worked lines before could double as 2nd and 3rd shift janitors @ $40 per hr. (union contract for OT) pushing a broom and emptying trash. Meanwhile thier managers who have college loans and kids in college are making around $55g - $60g per year. Skilled laborers are the machinists, electricians, and facilities people who never left. Fairness anyone? Mr. Obama? There is a huge call for skilled labor, and I agree totally with it, we cannot operate without skilled labor (good paying jobs to boot), but let's not confuse skilled labor with the offshore mindless factory jobs that went to the Pacific Rim. If Americans want $79 blu-ray players those will need to be made in China - If Americans are willing to pay for products produced at US facilities at US wages they must be willing to pay a 3x premium. I say bring it back, I will pay the premium for better quality.
Great idea!
