ELKHART COUNTY – Firefighters from six departments battled a stubborn barn fire in Elkhart County on Thursday.
This happened in the 6700 block of County Road 33 near Millersburg. There were at least 50 large round bales and 100 square bales of hay in the barn. WSBT was told the fire took off pretty quickly and eventually caused the roof to collapse.
“The metal roof was falling in so that was hurting us pretty good trying to get water on the fire,” said Jason Dunlap, Benton Township Fire Department Chief. “Then the loft fell in, which just covered everything up even more. It was a struggle for a while.”
Fire crews believe that sparks from an electrical box are to blame. The building is considered a total loss.
