All probation officers in Elkhart County have been asked to undergo drug testing. The move comes on the heels of an investigation involving an Elkhart County probation officer.
Elkhart County commissioners say that officer may be involved in possible criminal activity in St. Joseph County.
Probation officers work with inmates after they are released from jail while on probation.
“The probation department is under the auspices of court services and the judges have jurisdiction, so when the investigation came to light, its my understanding that the judges ordered the drug testing on all the probation officers and we're awaiting the findings,” said Mike Yoder, Elkhart County commissioner.
There is no word yet on the findings on those drug screens or what the investigation involves at the St. Joseph County Jail.
