We’ve got a happy update to a story WSBT's been following all week.
On Monday, a 2-year-old girl fell from a second-story window at her Elkhart home. She was initially taken to Elkhart General Hospital and then transferred to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she was underwent surgery.
The girl’s dad, who didn't want to be named or have his daughter named, talked with WSBT’s Ed Ernstes, saying his daughter was able to leave the hospital at 4 p.m. Friday.
The dad said the girl was asleep in another room as some upstairs rooms were being cleaned at their home in the 500 block of Washington Street. The window was open for airing out when she crawled out the open window onto a porch roof and fell. The family dog alerted them about the accident. The dad said they had not taken their eyes off her for more than 20 seconds.
Dad says his daughter did not have any broken bones, but instead had a small skull fracture.
She’s alert and talking with her family, and right now, the first order of business for the family is for the girl to get a couple of days of rest, her dad says.
The family says they are pleased with the outcome and appreciates all the prayers and well-wishes from people in the community.
