DETROIT (AP) — A 101-year-old Detroit woman who was evicted from her foreclosed house seven months ago has it back again.

Texana Hollis returned Wednesday to the home she had lived in for 60 years.

Detroit Free Press columnist Mitch Albom and his charity, S.A.Y. Detroit, helped renovate Hollis' house. The author's charity bought it from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Albom pushed Hollis in her wheelchair up the ramp and through the front door as she cried tears of joy.

Hollis was evicted in September and her belongings placed outside after her son failed to pay property taxes linked to a reverse mortgage, and HUD foreclosed. Two days later, the department said she could return.

That didn't happen, though, because HUD determined the home was unsanitary and unsafe.
