ELKHART – The Elkhart County Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping a displaced family of four after fire damaged their home near 6th and Moody in Elkhart.

A family member called 911 just after 11 a.m. Wednesday as the two adults and two children evacuated the burning home.

Elkhart Fire Battalion Chief Wes Johnson says a candle appears to have started the fire.

The two-story home suffered extensive smoke damage but no injuries were reported.
