SOUTH BEND - Today is an exciting afternoon for some local families.
Fifty Marines form Engineer Company B are on their way to South Bend's armory after serving in Afghanistan for seven months. They have been away from their families since last May. For many of them, this was their first deployment overseas.
These soldiers are from St. Joseph, Elkhart, and a handful of other Indiana and Michigan counties.
Their missions in Afghanistan focused on convoy operations and providing security among other responsibilities.
These types of homecomings can often be emotional. Four babies have been born since these Reserve Marines deployed nine months ago, so those first meetings are going to be so special.
WSBT's Kelli Stopczynski is there reporting live. Stay tuned for her reports at 5 and 6 p.m.
