BERRIEN COUNTY -- Fire crews worked fast Monday night to contain a fire that broke out at Morton Elementary School in Benton Harbor.

It happened just before 9 p.m. at the school on North Hull Street.

Public Safety Director Roger Lange tells us that contractors working on the roof accidentally caught some materials on fire.

The flames spread down the west side of the building. Lange said it's not clear how much damage was done.

The fire did not appear to get inside the building.

No one was hurt.

Morton Elementary was supposed to be a polling site for Tuesday's Michigan primary, and voters have been moved to a different site to cast their ballots. The new site is 200 Paw Paw, which is a city building.
