SOUTH BEND – A well known local business is closing after nearly 90 years.
Carl Fisher will auction off what is left of Fishers Hardware store in River Park this Friday. Fisher Ace Hardware has been at its current location since 1954 but has been in business since 1926.
Fisher says there are several reasons he is closing but he will miss seeing everyone from the neighborhood.
“It’s been a family situation and I’ll miss it terribly,” said Fisher. “I'll miss the people we have. I put in 2,000 hours a year dealing with thousands of people and they're all friends. It's a great neighborhood and we truly love doing it but you just get to the point where you just can't afford to do it anymore.”
Fisher says he is looking forward to easing up and spending more time with his family.
