ELKHART – The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is hitting the road to help hungry families around the area.
On Wednesday, they went to Elkhart as part of their Mobile Food Pantry program. It takes food to those in need.
There was a line of people, more than a block long, waiting at River of Life Community Church for food.
The Mobile Pantry program started back in March. It's already traveled to communities in 6 counties around the area.
It allows people to pick up non-perishable staples along with fresh produce and items they may not be able to afford.
“My husband works, and it just doesn’t quite cover everything,” said Amy Peffley. “Food and everything is so expensive anymore, gas and transportation to get him there
“We’ve seen a lot of elderly people with children, families with children, so there’s just a big need out in Elkhart County,” said Amanda Peterson of the Food Bank.
The food is provided on a first come, first serve basis.
