GARY, Ind. (AP) — Gary officials say they're considering appealing a 2010 census count that showed the city had lost 22 percent of its residents over the last decade.
The census figures released last week showed the city's population had fallen to 80,294 residents. That's a steep drop even from the 2009 American Community Survey estimates that showed the city with a population of 95,707.
City officials tell The Times in Munster that the city is consulting officials in Washington, D.C., to determine the cost of an appeal and the mechanics for making one.
