BENTON HARBOR – If you were hoping to get a break from shoveling the driveway, today is not the day.
Lake effect snow and winter weather advisories are in place across northern Indiana and southern Michigan.
People near the lake could see another 7 inches of snow today.
WSBT's Ed Ernstes went to Benton Harbor where a lot of people have been hit with more than a foot of white stuff.
Since Friday, James Duncan has made repeated trips to shovel snow. Just when he gets his driveway cleared, the snow reappears. He’s had to come back and brave the elements to shovel again and again. He takes care of his and his neighbors’ sidewalks.
“It’s been three days and every morning I get up and I make sure I take care of as many yards as I can to make sure we get to be able to move around as much as we need to,” Duncan said. “It helps the neighborhood a lot.”
“I’ve been working on this constantly,” said Sean Gray, who also has been out shoveling a lot. “Trying to catch it before it gets too high, so yeah, this is a constant routine now. It’s part of the daily program.”
“We have been pretty blessed all winter actually, and this is kind of a surprise,” added L.C. Bowen. “It’s been a long time since we have had this much snow.”
“This is a big shock, because, you know, I was thinking that spring was coming with the warm weather last week,” Gray said. “As you can see, it’s coming back down again now, so I will be back out in a few hours to continue this.”
