WATERVLIET, Mich. — Gossip is everywhere, and if you're on Facebook or Twitter you have probably seen plenty online.
But one local pastor is challenging people to stop gossiping face-to-face, online and through text.
It's a world of pokes, tweets, OMGs and LOL, but it's also a world for gossip, and it's something one man is asking people to take a break from.
"Facebook and MySpace are huge out there, and once something is posted or e-mailed it goes anywhere on the information highway," said Pastor Kevin Hester with Sanctuary Baptist Chruch.
Hester started the "Gossip Challenge" a few years ago, focusing on talking and listening to gossip. But as the times changed, this year, so did his goal. Now he's including social media and texting
"The only way to truly get rid of gossip is to cut out our tongues, take our ears off and no longer have fingers, because we'll type and text and tweet it,” Hester said. “But if we can just make people aware of the devastation, just ask them to pause before they post, text or type something.”
The eight-day challenge starts on August 8.
