EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A southwestern Indiana group that finds homes for greyhounds after their racing careers are over says it's running short on families to foster or adopt the dogs.

Melissa Wolf of the Tri-State chapter of Greyhound Pets of America tells the Evansville Courier & Press that the group is struggling to keep up after seven of the retired racing dogs were returned in the last two months.

Greyhounds' racing careers can span years or only a few races. Most of the dogs the group tries to place come from a Florida greyhound park and are between 2 and 5 years old.

The group says it hopes more people will step forward to take the dogs in.
