MIDDLEBURY – A Middlebury teenager is fighting for her life after she was the victim of a hit-and-run accident late Tuesday night.
Elkhart County police say 17-year-old Zion Carlstrom was riding her bicycle south on County Road 35, north of U.S. 20 around 10:15 p.m. when she was hit from behind by a car -- a Cadillac of a model year sometime between 2008-2010.
The driver of the Cadillac fled the scene.
Carlstrom suffered serious head and leg injuries and was flown to South Bend Memorial Hospital where Wednesday morning she was in critical condition.
Police say Carlstrom was not wearing a helmet and did not have lights on her bike.
Investigators don’t have much of a description of the car, although they say it may have been made by General Motors. The suspect's vehicle likely has damage to the front bumper and passenger side windshield.
