Driving and eating ice cream turned out not to be a successful multi-tasking experience Wednesday afternoon.

Richard Turner, 49, of Warsaw, told an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department officer he was distracted by the ice cream he was eating and when he tried to pass a buggy. His minivan, southbound on S.R. 13 near C.R. 36, struck the buggy from behind.

The buggy, driven by 13-year-old Lisa Miller of Ligonier, was badly damaged, but fortunately, the driver and two passengers, Leah Miller, 36, and Eva Miller, 11, had only minor injuries, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

Turner was cited for improper passing.
