INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indiana Marine who nursed an emaciated puppy back to health while serving in Afghanistan has been reunited with the dog he left behind in the war-torn nation.
WISH-TV reports that a nonprofit helped get the canine from Kabul to Indianapolis for a recent reunion with Capt. Matt Taylor. The dog became a loyal unit mascot after the Lebanon, Ind., resident and fellow Marines rescued her.
Alice's trip to Indiana began after the unit learned they would have to get rid of her because they were getting a military working dog to help detect roadside bombs.
Taylor says he was worried when he put Alice in a taxi for a 14-hour taxi cab ride to Kabul months ago. But she successfully made the journey all the way home to Indiana.
