MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — An eastern Indiana nurse is facing charges alleging that she failed to give a nursing home patient who later died daily injections of medication that prevents blood clots.
Fifty-two-year-old Mary Jane Bell of New Castle was charged this week with interference with medical services, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum one-year jail term.
The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/YWPRSS ) that Bell was released from the Henry County Jail after posting bond.
Prosecutors allege that over the course of six days in November she allegedly failed to inject an 84-year-old patient at Hickory Creek nursing home with medication to combat deep vein thrombosis.
The woman was hospitalized Nov. 16 with a swollen lower left leg. She died Dec. 6 after being transferred to hospice care due to her deteriorating condition.
