INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Soldiers with an Indiana National Guard unit that had one of its members killed in an Afghanistan attack have been reunited with their families.
About 110 soldiers of the multiunit military police force arrived Thursday for a welcoming ceremony at Stout Field in Indianapolis after being deployed to Afghanistan in January.
The unit consists of soldiers from the 381st Military Police Company headquartered in Plymouth and the 387th Military Police Company in New Albany.
They lost 27-year-old Spc. Arronn Fields of Knightsville in May when he was killed during a rocket propelled grenade attack.
Twenty-three-year-old James Scott of Plymouth tells The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/X7GaTW ) that unit members pulled together to finish their mission in Fields' memory. Scott's 8-month-old son was born while he was overseas and he says Fields' death makes him more grateful for many things.
