INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis firefighters have rescued a man from the White River after he fell from a bridge in downtown Indianapolis.

They say 40-year-old Al Curtis William told rescuers that had blacked out and fell over the railing of the Washington Street bridge Saturday night to the river about 30 feet below.

His cries for help had alerted passersby, who summoned a nearby police officer.

Rescuers found on a rocky patch near White River State Park and partially submerged. They used ropes to climb down and reach him, then placed him in a boat that took him to a waiting ambulance.

Medics says he was suffering from hypothermia and taken to a hospital.
