INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis police say an officer shot a man after he became combative and fled a child welfare check.
Sgt. Linda Jackson says 33-year-old Johnny Edmonds of Indianapolis was in good condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital following the shooting Monday morning.
Jackson says an officer checking on the welfare of a child at an eastside home tried to question Edmonds, and he became combative and was shocked with a stun gun. Edmonds pulled the stun gun's prongs from his body and ran away with his hands in his waistband. Directed several times to remove his hands from his waistband, Edmonds didn't comply and was shot. Jackson says no gun was found.
Jackson says Edmonds was wanted on warrants for gun charges. He has two drug trafficking convictions since 2006.
