SOUTH BEND – A murder trial started on Wednesday without a jury.

The St. Joseph County judge in the Tarrance Lee case has agreed to act as the jury.

The 49-year-old Lee, who is already a convicted killer, is accused of killing again – his wife Trina Winston in August in Mishawaka.

The judge agreed to a bench trial Wednesday morning, meaning he will decide if Lee is guilty.

During opening statements, the prosecution said Lee killed Winston and then asked his brother and two friends to help him get rid of her body.

The prosecution confirmed Wednesday in court a body found in the Chicago area last month is Winston's.

The Chief Medical Examiner from Cook County, Illinois was on the stand testifying about how Winston was killed.

Lee was convicted of murder in South Bend in the 1980's but was released from prison on good behavior, two years ago.

WSBT will have more tonight at 5 and 6.
