ELKHART – We travel with our kids all the time, and that's why it's so important to have them in a car safety seat that's secured properly.
A car seat safety checkup was held on Wednesday just west of Elkhart to help parents secure their precious cargo as they drive.
Traffic safety officers were at Walmart on U.S. 20 and Ash Road.
Experts say you can reduce the injury in a crash by up to 70% by securing your child in the most appropriate child restraint.
“We know that’s the number one cause of death for children in that age group,” said Mishawaka Police Lieutenant Tim Williams. “We want to make sure parents understand that, and we will gladly help you out. That’s why we’re out here to do that.”
The child seat check was a combined effort between St. Joseph and Elkhart County traffic safety partnerships.
