MISHAWAKA – If you saw more kids than usual walking to or from school on Wednesday, there's a good reason.
It was "Walk to School Day."
Kids at more than 1,000 schools across the county did it, many of them right here in Michiana.
At Battell Elementary, kids were seen wearing signs that said “Walking is good exercise.”
That's part of the message in doing this.
The idea is to promote safe walking environments for kids and to teach them how to spot intersections that may not be safe.
“We talked to them about wearing brightly colored clothes,” said Safe Kids Coordinator Alice Blakesley.
People with the "Safe Kids - Pedestrian Safety Program" were at the school to walk with kids.
Mishawaka Police were also there along with volunteers from FedEx.
