LEESBURG – Kosciusko County police are asking for your help in their search for an armed robber.
Authorities say around 1:30 p.m. Friday, a man walked into the Freedom Express gas station/convenience store on North Main St. in Leesburg and robbed a clerk at knifepoint.
Witnesses say the man filled his car with gas and entered the store to get grocery items. While inside, he said his wife had been to a doctor’s appointment the previous day for her pregnancy, and as he approached the store clerk, he pulled out a black-handled, single-bladed knife, demanding cash.
The robber took an undisclosed amount of money.
Police were told the possible suspect was in a tan-colored mini-van, possibly a GM or Chevrolet product that appeared to have been headed north.
Detectives with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department were told by the clerk and other witnesses that the suspect was white, in his mid to late 20s with short, blonde hair that was spiked on top. The robber was said to have a thin build, weighing 120 to 130 pounds. The suspect’s height was 5’6” to 5’8”, had partial facial growth stubble and wore a black T-shirt with blue jeans.
According to witnesses, the front-seat passenger of the getaway vehicle was a white woman with short, brown curly hair, possibly a perm. Two children were inside. One of the juveniles was said to be possibly a 4- to 6-year-old girl with blonde hair.
