Ex-husband fires at ex-wife, later kills self (WSBT-TV Photo / July 17, 2012) |
Police believe an ex-husband fired one shot through the window of a house in the 1300 block of North Marty Drive in rural Coolspring Township late Monday night, aiming at his 41-year-old ex-wife.
The bullet narrowly missed her, but she was injured by flying window shards. She was treated at Saint Anthony Memorial Hospital in Michigan City and later released.
LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputies quickly learned the suspect was, 41-year-old Scott Bailey of Michigan City. He was gone from the scene when police arrived and area law enforcement agencies searched through the night and into Tuesday morning for him.
Late Tuesday morning, Long Beach Police and sheriff’s deputies were sent to a house on Powhatan Drive in Michiana Shores. There, police found Bailey dead from a single, self-inflicted gunshot would. He was identified by the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office.
A sheriff’s department news release noted the couple had been divorced for several years and had reported domestic disturbances as well as child custody issues.
