ST. JOSEPH COUNTY – Sunday’s big game means big bucks for some local businesses. From area limousine companies running clients to and from Indianapolis all week for Super Bowl festivities, to grocery stores preparing for a busy weekend, several plan to bring in a profit because of Super Bowl XLVI.
“We’ve certainly sold out,” said Royal Excursion Marketing Manager Laura Dennison. “We have no more inventory for this weekend.”
Royal Excursion is sending 14 vehicles from its fleet to Indianapolis. Some are transporting private groups, but others are going empty.
“We’ve been hired by hotels and local venues there in Indianapolis to help shuttle people because parking is such a big concern,” Dennison said.
South Bend Regional Airport is also expecting some football fans to land here then make the 140 mile drive down to the game.
All was quiet at the Martin’s in Heritage Square Thursday, but employees there were expecting a busy weekend.
“We will be buzzing, going in circles around here,” said Assistant Deli Manager Karen Houck.
From veggie and sandwich trays to pub burgers and chicken, workers know they’ll be on their toes.
“We’ll be getting [fried chicken orders] and putting them in coolers [to keep them warm],” added Houck. “Some people order 200 pieces.”
“It is one of the biggest weekends of the year just for food sales,” said Meat Manager Paul Lagodney.
He told WSBT the store will sell thousands of pounds of meat this weekend.
