The racing tragedy in Las Vegas that claimed the life of two-time Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon is moving across racing circuits.
In the South Bend area, relatives of native son and NASCAR racer Ryan Newman are taking news of Wheldon's death hard.
Even though Newman is a NASCAR driver, people who are close to the racing sport are all taken aback when something tragic like this happens, regardless of the circuit.
Much of Ryan Newman's family still lives here in South Bend. His aunt, Nancy Kielton, has seen Ryan get into bad accidents before. Those accidents, she says, are always a reminder race drivers are human and the sport is still dangerous.
Wheldon won the "greatest spectacle in racing" in Indianapolis both this year and back in 2005.
