The former leader of local Catholics is back in northern Indiana continuing his fight with cancer.

The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend sent out a statement Friday from Bishop Emeritus John D'Arcy.

D’Arcy thanked current Bishop Kevin Rhoades and everyone in the diocese for their prayers.

The Bishop says it's good to be home. He's now in Fort Wayne after announcing earlier this month that he is undergoing treatment for cancer in his lung and brain.

D’Arcy previously battled prostate cancer in 2011.

D'Arcy retired as leader of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese in 2010 after 25 years as bishop.

 STATEMENT TO THE FAITHFUL

by

Bishop John M. D’Arcy

January 24, 2013

I wish to thank Bishop Rhoades and all the people of our beloved Diocese for the prayers of so many, which have been poured out on me. They are an enormous consolation. Please continue them.

Pray that my YES to God and His Will, be full and whole-hearted and never begrudging, but a strong YES. I hope my Yes has the same spirit of Our Lady at the Annunciation and also her Yes at the foot of the cross.

It is good to be home. I send you all my love and gratitude.
