LAPORTE COUNTY -- Police in LaPorte County say two good samaritans pulled an elderly man from his car seconds before it was hit by a train.
It happened Saturday night in LaPorte.
Police say the man was from New Jersey and was passing through the area. The 70-year-old said he turned onto Second Street when his car got stuck on the railroad tracks.
William Musgrave says as he ran over to help, the crossing gates went down and a train started coming.
Musgrave says the driver was heavyset and couldn't get out of the car by himself.
Musgrave says 10 to 15 seconds after he and another man pulled the man from the car, a train plowed into the vehicle.
