ECORSE, Mich. (AP) — Police say a 43-year-old man's arm was severed after he tried to cross train tracks in the Detroit area between the cars of a stopped train.
TV stations WDIV and WXYZ report the man was carrying a 2-year-old boy across the tracks on Thursday afternoon in Ecorse when the train started moving. Police say the man threw the child to a woman who was standing nearby and the man's arm was severed by the train.
Police say the man thought it was safe to cross because the train had stopped for a while. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The child was evaluated for bumps and bruises but escaped serious injury.
