Thirty-two-year-old Officer Jason Fishburn retired earlier this year from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department where he had been working a desk job after partially recovering from a July 2008 gunshot wound to the head.
The Indianapolis Star reports that officials with the Indiana retirement fund set Fishburn's pension at 69 percent of his annual salary, which comes to about $41,000. A local pension board had recommended Fishburn receive a full pension of 90 percent, or about $53,550 a year.
Fishburn has appealed the ruling to an administrative law judge.
Ballard said Saturday he would have city attorneys assist Fishburn.
