SOUTH BEND – South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg made a friendly wager with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox on Wednesday.
If the Irish win, Mayor Maddox will send up some barbeque ribs from a popular Tuscaloosa restaurant.
If the Crimson Tide win, Mayor Buttigieg will send down some South Bend chocolate.
The winner will also get $100 dollars for a charity of his choice.
“I think it’s gonna be fun,” said Buttigieg. “I’m looking forward to having a taste of his Alabama ribs, and maybe we’ll even send the chocolates anyway after we win just so he knows how good they are. And it’s nice to have a little benefit for charity, too.”
The two charities up for the prize are the Tuscaloosa Tornado Recovery Fund and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of St. Joseph County.
Firefighters from both cities also made a bet on the big game.
The winning side will get "duty shirts" from the losing side.
