“Things aren’t improving and I really thought by now we would see a change,” he said on Tuesday.
The mayors plan to testify in support of a bill which would further limit the amount of a certain nasal decongestant a patient can purchase over-the-counter.
The measure, which passed the Senate last month and is pending in the House, would allow people to buy 61 grams of over-the-counter pseudoephedrine and ephedrine per year. Current law limits purchases to 7.2 grams a month.
“What we have to slow down and alleviate and eliminate if we can are the homemade labs,” said Senter, a former Indiana state trooper and drug investigator who thinks meth manufacturing in Marshall County is returning to levels not seen since 2004 and 2005, when the problem really became apparent.
“I can think of probably 20 arrests since February 1st and that’s only six weeks,” he said.
Among the arrests, Senter said, is a man who used to coach Senter’s son in little league baseball.
