SOUTH BEND – MIAMI is on everyone's mind right now as the Fighting Irish head to the national championship game in January.
Once they beat USC this past weekend to clinch their spot in that game, plane tickets to Miami and hotels in South Beach all became hot sellers in seconds.
It's the hottest ticket in town.
Students want ‘em.
Alums want ‘em.
It's a chance to see the UNDEFEATED Irish play for the national title in sunny Miami.
"Rumor has it there will be 2,000 tickets available in this student lottery, so I like my chances," said Notre Dame Student Kevin Dunne.
Fans want to be a part of history.
Inside Anthony Travel, the travel agency on Notre Dame's campus, phone lines are jammed. Its website has been overloaded with inquiries. It even crashed at one point.
So how much are tickets going for?
We did a quick internet search:
Notre Dame Alums will pay $350 a ticket.
A travel package through the university that includes airfare, hotel and a ticket will range from $1,700 to $2,400 each.
And websites like StubHub have tickets starting at $1,600.
But first you need to GET to Miami, right?
We checked on Priceline.com. The cheapest flight from Chicago O'Hare to Miami International Airport is $452 right now, leaving Friday and coming back Tuesday morning after the game.
A medium range hotel in Miami starts at about $200 a night.
Add in a rental car, food, and souvenirs, you're well on your way to spending over $1,000, but for some, this moment is a once in a lifetime event, so it's more than worth it.
"It’s incredible, dream come true, we're both seniors, so it's everything we could have wanted to end this year," said Kelsey Behan.
If you're trying to get tickets or travel packages through the university, you'll need to enter a lottery. And the demand is so high, many fans will be let down.
The university won't know how many tickets they'll get for sale until the official bowl bid is announced Sunday night.
The university says Notre Dame will receive $6.2 million this year.
