DETROIT (AP) — Legal, labor and religious leaders are among those being honored during the 7th annual Peace & Justice Banquet in Detroit.
The event Sunday at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center will be awarding United Auto Workers' Vice President Cindy Estrada, Maryknoll Ministries Senior Cleric Roy Bourgeois, attorney Vanessa Fluker and Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations' Michigan chapter.
The keynote speaker for the banquet organized by Detroit's Central United Methodist Church is MSNBC talk show host Ed Schultz. The event chairman is former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Conrad Mallett Jr., now president and chief executive of Sinai-Grace Hospital.
The banquet is a fundraiser for the church's community service programs in the city.
