Shabazz The vast majority of the American population has no health insurance after retirement. They have to use medicare. So I don't see that being any different for teachers. I don't blame the teachers for any of this. Most are really good and care about what they do. But the unions asked for too much for far too long, and now the bills are coming due. What else can happen but cuts for future teachers? How many taxpayers are willing to pony up for a lot higher taxes, to pay for perks that they themselves will never be able to have? Something has to give, and it's not going to be pretty for anyone.
I don't see the politicians giving up their lifetime benefits, and frankly teachers work a lot harder and a lot longer for a lot less money. For a party that claims to espouse Christian values, most of them seem to worship nothing but the almighty dollar.
This surely will make people go into different industries, and the school system will fail. No one wants to work somewhere that when they retire they'll have no health insurance.
Republicans continue to weaken the public school systems in the states they run.
