Two soldiers are home tonight. Army Reserve Sergeant David Monsivais and Chief Warrent Officer Shawn Waldron have been gone for ten months in Kuwait.
Monsivais was all smiles as he kissed his 14-month-old son.
After spending months in the Middle East, David says he couldn't wait to get off the plane and see his family.
It's the moment he's been longing for.
"The people getting off the plane were taking a little too long, I was about ready to push people around, I was really excited," said Sgt. Monsivais.
Monsivais spent nearly a year in Kuwait with the 221st ordinance company out of Fort Wayne, but now he can relax in the comfort of his own home with his wife and son, who is also named David.
"I really missed my son and that was the first time I saw him and I was really happy," said David.
David was there for his son's birth, but hasn't seen him since he was an infant.
"I want to spend as much time with him as I can," he said.
"It's been tough, really busy,” said David’s wife, Kim. “I'm glad he's back and he can help me out, especially with David. Kid's a handful. He's in for a treat.”
After spending about ten months in the Middle East, David is looking forward to the challenge.
This also wasn't David's first tour of duty. He served in Afghanistan in 2009. David has re-enlisted in the Army Reserves for another six years so he could be called to serve once again. But for now, he's just focused on spending time with family and that includes building a model rocket with his son.
Waldron is a Mishawaka firefighter and his colleagues were also there at the airport to welcome him back. He has spent 13 years in the military. This was Waldron's third deployment. He previously served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
