INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republican Richard Mourdock is spending $315,000 on a new ad he hopes will cut through the on-air clutter in Indiana's Senate race.

The ad features black-and-white footage of synchronized swimmers performing in the background as the Mourdock camp argues that Democratic candidate Joe Donnelly is "synchronized" with President Barack Obama.

The spot will run for a week statewide on broadcast and cable starting Monday. A Republican tracking ad buys confirmed the new buy on condition of anonymity because the campaign does not openly discuss ad purchases.

The Indiana Senate battle has quickly become the most expensive the state has seen. Spending by the campaigns and outside groups has topped about $10 million and includes $2.75 million in spending announced last week.
