SOUTH BEND — St. Joseph County prosecutors have filed murder charges in a 2010 homicide in which a South Bend man was shot to death at a party in what investigators say was a gang-related shooting.

Javon Thomas, 20, of South Bend, is charged with murder in the November 2010 shooting of 19-year-old William Williams.

Charging documents allege Thomas fired shots into a residence in the 1300 block of College Street where a party was taking place just after midnight.

Witnesses told police Williams was struck by gunfire and ran out of the residence, but collapsed nearby, where officers found him.

Investigators wrote in the affidavit that Williams was a member of the gang “187” and attended a party the gang hosted.

The affidavit alleges Thomas is a member of rival gang “Cash Out Boyz.”

Police interviewed another Cash Out Boyz member who told them Thomas shot Williams in retaliation, believing Williams previously fired shots into a Cash Out Boyz party.
